Sergeant Hector Ayala

On Friday, April 9th, members of the Pipe Band performed with other bands honoring MCPD officer, Sgt Hector Ayala.  Sgt Ayala passed away in the line of duty on Sunday, April 4, at approximately 2:21 a.m.  Montgomery County Police officers from the 4th District were responding to a large fight in progress.  An officer, who had arrived on the scene of the fight, radioed that he needed assistance and requested that additional officers respond.  While responding to assist his fellow officer, Officer Ayala was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Officer Ayala, a 4th District midnight officer, was traveling westbound on Randolph Road approaching Denley Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the officer's 2003 Ford Crown Victoria left the roadway and struck a tree on the right side of the roadway in the 3000 block of Randolph Road.  Officer Ayala was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Hector Ayala was a seven-year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department.

The members of the MCFFP&D continue to keep Officer Hector Ayala's family members, friends and his extended MCPD family in our thoughts and prayers.
